The Games

1. Midnight Bowling: This is one of the best out of all the games. It’s my second favorite next to pool/billiards. You bowl using the stylus, and can control the direction, speed, and spin of your ball.

There are a number of ways to play the bowling game. You can compete in a tournament or bowl a few balls for relaxation. The tournament is the most fun. Novice is the beginning tournament level, and you work your way up to pro. You can also choose from different ball weights, colors, and costumes. There are a lot of goodies locked away in the bowling game.

2. Midnight Pool / Billiards: This is my favorite Nintendo DS pool / billiards game. If you’ve played pool on Touchmaster 2 or Clubhouse Games, you will enjoy this one just as much if not more.

The pool / billiards game is stylus controlled. You can line up your shot with or without the guideline. I always use the guideline because I am a novice player. You can also change the angle to get a better view of your shot. There are various modes of play: instant play, arcade mode, story mode, and challenges. Midnight Play Pack is worth getting just for the pool / billiards game.

3. Platinum Solitaire: This is a terrific solitaire collection. The games include: Klondike, Golf, Pyramid, Free Cell, Yukon, and Spider Solitaire. You can play the games in Quick Mode or Casino Mode. Pick Quick Mode for a quick game, and Casino Mode when you want to bet and win money.

You move the cards with the stylus so playing is easy. The cards are also easy to see without straining your eyes. Anyone who enjoy solitaire card games will enjoy this collection.

4. Midnight Poker: This is a more than decent poker game. I have quite a few Nintendo DS poker games, and this is one of the best. Texas Hold Em, Omaha, and Omaha Hi-Lo are included. You can compete in a tournament or a cash game. For quick play just choose instant play mode.

Just like with the solitaire games, the poker cards are also easy to see. The interface is attractive and easy on the eyes. No straining your eyes to see the action. You can play the game using the stylus or the button controls. Don’t know how to play poker? That’s fine because the in-game poker tutorials will teach you the basics.

5. Block Breaker Deluxe: This is my least favorite game on the cartridge. It’s weak when compared to the others. You bounce a ball off of a small paddle at the bottom of the screen. When the ball hits one of the onscreen blocks the block disappears. Your goal is to get rid of all the blocks and move to the next level.

R4 Firmware For R4 Ds

Looks like one of the developers of the R4 DS variant, called “R4Li”, has been releasing firmware that they have created for the R4 version 2 and are intending on updating them regularly. Their R4 card software which has been released is not as quick as the original one and has a few bugs, but it definitely solves many of the game compatibility issues. With potential of future better releases, this looks very promising and hopefully will extend the life of the mighty R4 card once again.

There is sometning new that the R4 DS team have released a new version of their firmware for the flash cart.:
1) Optimization delete process;
2) Solve the 0991 issue;
3) Solve issue to some of the games without displays of icon and the title; 4) Support master switch of action replay cheat for real-time game (opening cheats by L+R+START+UP, temporaryly closing cheats by L+R+START+DOWN);
5) When cheats to the same game are in both the official database and the users database, users can choose to use the cheat in any database;
6) Solve the 1070 achiving issue;
7) Solve the 1085 issue;

9) Released the list of cheats.

There is one new firmware for R4DS flash card:
1. It supports NDS and GBA games card ans it automatically recognize slot 2 adapter.
2. Frameset can be customised for loading slot 2 GBA games. (save your gbaframe .bmp to _system_ dir)
3. Backup/Restore game saves. (press SELECT to switch to Display Savefiles, choose the SAV file and then press A to backup, chose the BAK file and then press A to restore)
4. You can empty directory and it also supports deleting file. (Press X to del while highlighting the corresponding file or directory)
5. Bug has been fixed for 0970 save complicacy.
